JOURNAL CLUBS

Join PANDM Lab's bi-weekly Journal Clubs.

PANDM's Journal Clubs are meant to bring curious minds together in a more informal environment, have intellectually stimulating exchanges about different topics of interest, and even share some food and drinks together. We would like to foster an environment where people can share their ideas, sharpen their understanding as well as get to know each other while doing so.

Please clearly state 1) your name, 2) your affiliation with HKU, if any, and 3) your reasons for joining. You will subsequently be put on an email list to keep you up-to-date with details for upcoming JCs, including information on materials and venue.

The details are as follows:

Position - Volunteer Research Assistants 

General Requirements:

  • Expected commitment is part-time i.e., ~10-16 hours/week

  • Ideally committing for one year 

​

These are volunteer positions (i.e., you will not be paid), but you will learn through extensive training and gain research skills that will feed into publications, possible paid opportunities or academic careers in the future. Please note that we do not take virtual internships, and that applicants should have a working visa/ are eligible to work in Hong Kong legally. Preference would also be given to individuals who are affiliated with HKU.

We usually recruit Research Assistants for the roles listed below.

Quantitative Role
Clinical Role
General Role

.                                    Description                                   .

​People with quantitative skills (e.g., statistics, computational modeling, computer science, mathematics, physics, or engineering background) who are interested in using different statistical and experimental methods to examine human emotion and related disorders, decision making, and/or neuroscience.
People with a strong interest in psychopathology (e.g., depression and anxiety) and/or interaction with clinical populations. 
People with a strong interest in experimental psychological research.

.                                 Potential Duties                               .

  • Work on human behavioral and neuroimaging data processing and analyses using Matlab and/or Python

  • Assist with novel experimental design and data collection on the intersection of emotion and cognition

  • Conduct computational modeling research

  • Receive training for administration of Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5 (SCID-5)
  • Conduct diagnostic interviewing, data collection and interaction with individuals with potential psychopathology
  • Assist with data collection in behavioral studies
  • Literature search, experimental paradigm preparation and preliminary data analysis

.                                Requirements & Expectations                                 .

  • Programming experience in Matlab (must) and Python (optional)

  • 3rd & 4th year students with statistical and computational modeling/programming skills (preferred)

  • Highly diligent work ethic

  • Experience in or exposure to and interaction with clinical population (preferred)

  • Former research experience preferred, but not required

  • Strong work ethic, responsible and committed to research
